One package, two document-generation models

PL/PDF OffX combines developer-controlled document generation with template-driven reporting. Developers can build documents directly through the complete PL/PDF programming API or use Microsoft Word documents as the visual source for report layouts.

The entire workflow runs inside the Oracle environment, close to application data and business logic. No separate reporting server, document-conversion service or Java application server is required.

Use the full PL/PDF programming API for precise PDF and Office document generation. A separate SDK installation or licence is not required.

Template-driven generation

Use Microsoft Word when document appearance, branding and textual content need to be designed and reviewed in a familiar visual environment.

After a template is approved, OffX converts it into a deployable PL/SQL package that can be called by the Oracle application.

A controlled template deployment workflow

Word is used as the visual design environment, while Oracle remains responsible for code generation, runtime data and document delivery.

  1. Prepare the layout in Word. Start with a new document or an existing corporate template.
  2. Add fields and repeating structures. Connect the document design to the data expected from Oracle.
  3. Upload the DOCX template. Store or supply the template to the OffX parser as a BLOB.
  4. Generate the PL/SQL package. OffX creates the package specification, implementation and parameter structures.
  5. Deploy and execute. Call the generated report from PL/SQL, Oracle APEX or a scheduled database job.
  6. Return the result. Store, download, email, sign or archive the generated PDF or DOCX BLOB.
